The Duchess of Mares artwork by the talented artist Sergio Escalona is a character created in the author's mind as a child by his mother's storytelling. The story goes as the family roots came from Spain Royalty at a place called Mares. His attraction for redheads has always been a mystery, even for himself. He always believed everything his mothers said. As a grown-up, he decided to search for The Mares Royalty but never found anything. These stories were profoundly molding the author's imagination as many of his paintings are Queens and royalty from what he calls "The place I came from in a bubble."
Today he understands that perhaps his Mom's storytelling was about building self-esteem and confidence in the way she only knew.
